4 EVERYDAY STEPS TO BETTER SKIN
CLEANSE. EXFOLIATE. TONE. MOISTURIZE. REPEAT.
Call it the skincare commandments if you wish, because these are the four steps you must take that are essential to your everyday skincare regimen, in this order!
The first and most important step is to cleanse your skin, I advise you to pick a cleanser that is best for your skin type. I have oily skin and use the Beauty Formulas’ Detox Cleanser With Activated Charcoal to wash my face twice daily。Cleansing helps to open up your pores and leaves the face feeling refreshed and ready to take on the next important step of this routine.
Wash your face with room temperature water or really warm water, never hot!
Wash with your fingertips or a soft washcloth and not a harsh sponge or the same sponge you use for your body!
Always PAT dry with a clean face towel! Don’t rub because that will only spread bacteria.
The next step, and probably my favorite, is exfoliating! It always leaves my skin feeling extra soft and radiant and I absolutely love it. The purpose of exfoliating is to scrub off all the dirt and dead skin cells from your skin. Although this is sort of an everyday skincare routine post, I don’t advice you exfoliate your skin every day, especially if you have dry skin. As I said earlier, I have oily skin and exfoliate once every two days, and this is because in between those days I use facial masks. I also advice that if you are to exfoliate that often, you go for a mild facial scrub. I use the Beauty Formulas Apricot Facial Scrub, and it is perfect for my skin. If you are interested in using the Beauty Formulas Activated Charcoal Facial Scrub from the Activated Charcoal cleansing trio, feel free to shop here. (Lol no, this post was not sponsored by Beauty Formulas).
When exfoliating, scrub softly in circular motions!
Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean face towel!
Toning helps to remove any leftover dirt and excess oils from your skin, as well as enhancing skin brightness and blurring out blemishes! There are different types of toners for each skin type so I suggest you get a toner specifically for your own skin type. For oily skin/acne prone skin, you want to make sure to use a soothing toner. I recommend the Beauty Formulas Face Visage Refreshing Facial Tonic, it’ll leave your skin feeling so refreshed and great news, its suitable for all skin types! I must add that I currently use Apple Cider Vinegar to tone my skin, I have been using it for about 6 months day and night and only use the Beauty Formulas’ toner on days I use makeup, along with their gentle cleansing milk, you can read my review on these products here!
Use a cotton pad to apply the toner on your skin, I like to tap it on then lightly rub.
Don’t forget your neck!
And now the final step, which is just as important as the first, is to moisturize your face! I use my favorite moisturizer of all time, coconut oil! I’ve been using coconut oil on my skin for 3 years now and I don’t think I can ever stop. I know I have oily skin and using more oil on my face does not sound like the wisest thing to do, but I can’t help it. I’ve been using it long enough to know its magic for my skin. Now when it comes to moisturizing, the only thing I recommend people to use is coconut oil, lol and you can tell why. However, there is a wide variety of moisturizers suitable for each skin type, if you are not too keen on using coconut oil as a moisturizer (especially if you have oily skin), you can opt for the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer. But if you would like to take my advice and include coconut oil into your everyday skincare routine, go for extra virgin coconut oil from a well-trusted brand, or you can even bring out the DIY god in you and make it yourself, here’s a tutorial. I have someone who specially makes mine in Nigeria and my mum ships it out to me, it’s that deep!
